• Discovery: If required, the discovery process generally begins after a lawsuit has been filed. During the discovery process, each party “discovers” and attempts to learn what the adverse party knows about the cause of action by requesting documents and answers to written questions. The discovery process can continue for a period of months and, in complex cases, may take months or a year to complete. The “paper discovery” process includes interrogatories, request for production of documents and request for admissions.
